Awards

Congratulations to all of the George F. Baker High School students who recently received scholarship awards. School Counselor Chris Oliva and Assistant Superintendent and George F. Baker High School Principal Jared Kahmar presented the following students with their awards and notified their families with the good news:

Sophomore Chris Ahart: The Laundry Road Math Award recognizes a student who shows a mastery of geometry and achieves the highest score on the Geometry Regents on both the June 2023 and January 2024 exams.


Senior Charlie Nemec: The Joseph Edward Zupko Art Award honors a gifted artist in any medium who goes above and beyond the standard requirements, displays a strong work ethic and who demonstrates an appreciation and understanding of the creative process.  

Senior Marley Vaught: The John Edward Paul Skvarla III Award is given in honor of John Skvarla, graduate of the class of 1966, and is based on an essay competition related to environmental issues.  Marley’s essay was selected as the winning submission by our faculty panel.

Junior Bromley Givens:  The University of Rochester's Bausch and Lomb Science Award, recognizing outstanding achievement and superior intellectual promise in the field of science. The application fee would be waived should Bromley choose to apply to University of Rochester next school year, and he will receive a scholarship should he choose to attend.

Junior Amanda Dykstra: The University of Rochester's George Eastman Young Leaders Award is given to a student who displays outstanding leadership traits and who has the potential to become a member of a select tradition at Rochester. The application fee would be waived should Amanda choose to apply to the University of Rochester next school year, and she will receive a scholarship should she choose to attend.

Junior Sara Ems: The University of Rochester's Xerox Award recognizes a student who has a strong interest and talent in the pursuit of innovative approaches and an appreciation for the possibilities of technology. The application fee is waived should Amanda choose to apply to the University of Rochester next school year, and she will receive a scholarship should she choose to attend.

Junior Casey Juance: The University of Rochester's Frederick Douglass Susan B. Anthony Award.  The award is named in honor of two of Rochester’s most significant pioneers of social justice and it recognizes a student’s commitment to understanding and addressing difficult social issues. The application fee would be waived should Casey choose to apply to the University of Rochester next school year, and she will receive a scholarship should she choose to attend.

Casey Juance: The Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership Award recognizes high school juniors who exhibit the qualities and ideals of the United States Military Academy - academics, athletics, character, community service, citizenship, and leadership.

Casey Juance: The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Rensselaer Medal. This prestigious award has been awarded since 1916 to one student in any given high school and is designed to recognize that student’s strength and success in the fields of mathematics and science. Medalists who apply, are admitted to, and enroll at Rensselaer are awarded a scholarship, should they choose to attend.  Should Casey choose to apply to RPI, she will be granted admission and receive a scholarship to attend.
